Christina Welch Interns at The Jackson Laboratory

2016 Aug 2

Eastern student Christina Welch '18 of Farmington is amid a summer internship with The Jackson Laboratory, a prestigious biomedical research center based in Farmington.

During the paid Summer Student Program, Welch, a biology major, is working in the lab of Jacques Banchereau, a world-renowned immunologist. The lab investigates the human immune system - in both its healthy and diseased states - in effort of developing novel therapies for life threatening illnesses.

"My experience at The Jackson Laboratory has truly been life changing," said Welch. "I have expanded my knowledge, watched my passion and confidence grow, and discovered what means the most to me in this diverse and dynamic field of science. I've found that I really enjoy the curiosity and discovery that the computational side of biology promotes."

She added, "My research project used general linear modeling to explore the sorted immune cells gene and isoform differences, seeking to identify the patterns of differential expression."
