Eastern Connecticut State University Student Andrew Hofmann of South Windsor Participates as Eastern Chamber Singer in Concert with Josh Groban

2015 Oct 15

The Chamber Singers at Eastern Connecticut State University recently participated in a portion of a Josh Groban concert at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford. Andrew Hofmann '19 of South Windsor is a member of the Chamber Singers.

As part of the performance with Groban, a celebrity singer/songwriter and record producer, the ensemble performed "Anthem" as well as "You'll Never Walk Alone," both of which are featured on Groban's new "Stages" album.

Hofmann performs tenor in the ensemble. Hofmann is a exploratory STEM major.

Eastern's Chamber Singers were sought out for the performance after having been named as the most highly recommended ensemble in the area. "I am elated that the reputation of Eastern's Chamber Singers has reached such heights that we were sought out for this concert," said David Belles, professor of music and conductor for Eastern's Chamber Singers. "It is a reminder that hard work, focus and dedication to excellence pays off in the most unexpected ways," he added.

The ensemble's recommendation for this opportunity reflects strongly on Eastern, demonstrating the essence and significance of the liberal arts focus and commitment. "Singers come from many disciplines across campus, as well as the music program," said Belles. "This reflects the idea that we are graduating critical and creative thinkers, individuals who are engaged beyond their chosen major and people who make connections across academic disciplines."
