Eastern Connecticut State University Student Jacqueline Ray of Manchester Completes Successful Internship

2016 Jun 3

Eastern student Jacqueline Ray '17 of Manchester recently completed a spring 2016 internship at the Windham Textile and History Museum. Ray's major is History and Social Science.

As part of her tasks, she assisted both the museum director and the collections manager. In addition to creating a library inventory, she worked on digitizing archives, maintaining and organizing the museum and processing documents from a recent donation.

She also worked on researching, summarizing and compiling descriptions of donated scrapbooks that included newspaper clippings from the late 1800's.

"This experience was a wonderful opportunity for me to more fully understand what a job in public history is and how my role as an archivist fits in. I also got the opportunity to receive training with the Connecticut Digital Portal, a digital collections archive for the state. Having experience in this program will make learning other programs much more manageable," said Ray.

"Internships are extremely important because they allow you to get a taste of your future career before you've finished school. For me, it was great motivation because I know how much I am going to enjoy my job once I get through school," added Ray. She plans on continuing her education in library sciences in order to become an archivist.
