Eastern Connecticut State University Student Jasmine Williams of Norwalk Awarded Competitive Scholarship

2011 Oct 12

Jasmine Williams '12 of Norwalk was the one of a record 303 Eastern Connecticut State University students receiving ECSU Foundation's competitive scholarships in the 2011-12 academic year. The allotted scholarships total $334,000 in funds awarded through the ECSU Foundation's annual scholarship process.

Williams is majoring in Social Work and was awarded the University General Scholarship.

The ECSU Foundation's competitive scholarship awards are based on merit and, in many cases, unmet financial need. The competitive scholarship process is coordinated by the Office of Institutional Advancement.

According to Kenneth DeLisa, vice president for institutional advancement, "The ECSU Foundation plays an important role in that it often provides financial support to our students for the last critical amount of money they need to continue their goal of obtaining a college degree. Our ability to respond in a positive way with this financial support, often to purchase required books, is possible due to the generosity of our donors and the strong relationship that we have with our students. They know they can reach out to us when they are confronted with financial problems."

Eastern Connecticut State University is part of the Connecticut State University System (CSUS) and is the state's public liberal arts university. Eastern serves more than 5,000 students each year on its Willimantic campus.
