Eastern Connecticut State University's Ariel Smith Named LEC Rookie-of-the-Week

Ariel Smith '18, of Stratford who is majoring in Biology, is named Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Week for women's cross country in the eighth report of the fall.

Picking up the slack for an injured teammate, Smith moved into the No. 5 slot for the Warriors Saturday, coming in 39th overall in a field of 210 to help the Warriors to their fifth-place finish among 22 teams at Western New England. Smith, who was timed in 21:28 over the 5,000 meter race, scored 37 points, just one spot and just over one second behind sophomore teammate Kelsey Nixon (Ledyard). Smith is one of five freshmen on Eastern's 12-person roster.

Eastern competes at the Little East Conference/New England Alliance Championships Nov. 1 at Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, MA.
