Eastern Connecticut State University's Leah Sopneski Named Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Week

Leah Sopneski '19, of Deep River majoring in Health Sciences, was named Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Week in volleyball.

Freshman setter Leah Sopneski of Deep River, Conn. averaged 5.10 assists in 11 sets when the Warriors won two of three matches, including their Little East Conference opener against six-time defending LEC regular-season champion University of Massachusetts Boston. Averaging 3.86 assists per match entering Saturday's match, Sopneski averaged better than five in the team's sweep of the Beacons. In a four-set mid-week loss at Wesleyan University, Sopneski averaged 7.0 assists per set, amassing a season-high 28. Against UMD, Sopneski also had a service ace and only one error on 16 serves. In ten sets during the week, she also totaled 20 digs.

Five Eastern Connecticut State University athletes were cited during the third weekly Little East Conference awards report of the season, through matches of Sept. 20. The five awardees give Eastern ten selections in five fall sports (men's soccer, women's soccer, field hockey, women's volleyball, and women's cross country) in the program's first three weeks. Eight different individuals have earned the award at least once this fall.
