Eastern Connecticut State University's Maggie Bodington Named National Soccer Coaches' Association of America All-America

Maggie Bodington '18, of Stratford majoring in Physical Education, was named to the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) All-America.

A two-year starter on defense and two-time first-team All-LEC selection, Bodington followed up her selection earlier this week to the NSCAA All-New England Region first team with third-team Division III All-America accolades today.

She becomes only the fifth NSCAA All-America in the history of Eastern men's or women's soccer and is the first Eastern player named to the elite team as a sophomore, following senior back Lauren Hickey in 2010, senior forward Lisa Matukaitis in 1992 for the women and senior back Kyle Bedini in 2008 and junior forward Glenn Judge in 1986 for the men.

Bodington was one of seven players from New England named to the team, the only pick from the Little East.

Earlier this week, Bodington became only the fifth Eastern female soccer player to gain first-team All-New England Region recognition among the program's 27 selections over 28 years.

Last month, Bodington and classmate Emily Becher became the first players in program history to gain first-team All-Little East Conference distinction as both freshmen and sophomores.

Bodington started all 18 of the team's matches this year and compiled more than 1,400 minutes, averaging 79.8 per match

A two-sport all-conference player and last year's Female Rookie-of-the-Year at Eastern, Bodington led the LEC this past fall with ten assists (to go along with four goals) - a number which equaled the fifth-highest assist total by a player in a season in program history - the most among defensive players. With Bodington on the back line, Eastern was ranked in a tie for first place in the conference in least overall goals allowed (19), and was second with eight shutouts. Eight of Bodington's assists came in the team's last six matches, two each in three consecutive matches prior to the season-finale.

This past fall, the Warriors won all seven of their LEC contests for the first time ever in capturing their sixth regular-season title in 16 years under head coach Chris D'Ambrosio, and closed out with an overall record of 13-4-1.

A total of 49 players were named to the All-America team: 16 as first and second-team selections and 17 third-teamers. Bodington was among five defenders earning spots on the third team.
