Eastern Connecticut State University's Tarchee Brown Named Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Week

Tarchee Brown '18, of Vernon majoring in Physical Education, is named Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Week in men's basketball for the second time in three weeks. Brown has made an immediate impression at the collegiate level and selected as the MVP of the University of Rochester/Holiday Inn Airport Thanksgiving Invitational this past weekend.

In a 3-0 week, Brown averaged 16.7 points and 2.7 rebounds and shot 61.3 percent from the floor last week in a home win over Connecticut College (88-60) and tournament victories over Stevenson University (66-61) and York (NY) University (70-60).

During the week, he also shot 80.0 percent from the line and 50.0 percent from three-point range. Brown was 19-of-31 from the floor, 8-of-16 from three-point range and 4-of-5 from the foul line.

In helping the Warriors to their second tournament title this year at Rochester, the 6-foot-3 inch former Rockville High School All-Stater led the Warriors in scoring (18.5), field goal shooting (66.7), three-point field goals (7) and percentage (53.8) and also added eight total rebounds, four blocks and four assists.

Brown led the Warriors back from 14 points down early in the second half of the tournament opener against Stevenson by scoring 23 of his career-high 26 points in the second half on 9-of-11 shooting from the field (10-of-16 in the game). He also had four blocked shots in that game, where he scored eight straight Eastern points to vault the Warriors into a five-point, 57-52 lead with 6:31 left. With the Warriors down by three, Brown converted a conventional three-point play to tie the game, 52-52, with 8:24 left, then blocked a shot and sank one of his five three-point field goals to push Eastern into the lead for good, 55-52, with 7:27 left.

Also named to the Eastern Tip-Off all-tournament team on the opening weekend of the year (35 points, 10 rebounds, 53.6 FG pct.), Brown has started all eight games thus far for the 7-1 Warriors. He is third on the team in scoring (14.8), rebounding (4.6) and steals (9 total) and second in three-point field goals (17) and blocked shots (8). He is shooting 49.4 percent from the floor, 38.6 percent from three-point range and 76.5 percent from the foul line.Three times, he has reached at least 20 points in a game., with a season-high eight rebounds coming in an 80-56 home victory over Nichols College in the third game of the season.

Eastern, a winner of at least 20 games each of the last five seasons, opens its Little East Conference season Saturday at 3 p.m. at Rhode Island College in a re-match of last year's LEC championship game, won by the Anchormen.
