Psi Chi's mission is to encourage excellence in scholarship and to foster the advancement of psychological science. Eastern students who are inducted into Psi Chi must declare a major or minor in psychology, have at least 12 credits of coursework in psychology and attain a 3.5 GPA in psychology and a 3.0 GPA overall.

Professors of psychology Chunying Sandy Jin and Joseph Dracobly, advisors of Psi Chi, prepared the following statement: "The award ceremony serves as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of students who study psychology at Eastern. It is an honor to have so many students inducted into Psi Chi, especially given that qualification requirements are more stringent at Eastern. Our students will not only receive international recognition for academic excellence in psychology, but also opportunities to present research and interact with leaders in their field. We hope to inspire more students to contribute to the culture of academic excellence at Eastern, and to take advantage of the opportunity Psi Chi provides for professional growth and creative development."
