2018 May 2

A cohort of high-achieving psychology students from Eastern Connecticut State University were honored at the annual Psychology Honors Night and Psi Chi Induction Ceremony on April 23.

Among the students recognized was Alyssa Law '19 of New Milford, who majors in Health Sciences. Law was inducted into Psi Chi.

Psi Chi is the international honor society for the field of psychology. Eastern students who are inducted into Psi Chi must attain a 3.5 GPA in psychology and a 3.0 GPA overall.

Students awarded High Distinction must complete Statistics and Research Methods I courses with a grade of A- or higher; maintain a GPA of a 3.5 or higher within the Psychology major as well as an overall GPA of a 3.5 or higher; complete an independent study, teaching assistantship or research assistantship; and present a first-author/co-author research project at CSU Psychology Day. Students awarded Highest Distinction must satisfy the aforementioned and additionally score in the 80th percentile or higher on the pre-graduate exit exam and present their research at a state, regional or national conference.

"The departmental honors recognize the best of the best among our graduates," said Psychology Professor Peter Bachiochi. "These students embody the qualities of academic excellence and commitment to research that are hallmarks of our department and our field."

"The award ceremony serves as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of students who study psychology at Eastern," said Joseph Dracobly, psychology professor and Psi Chi advisor. "It is an honor to have so many students inducted into Psi Chi, especially given that qualification requirements are more stringent at Eastern."
