Eastern Student Amy Dziewaltowski of Coventry Participates in "Our Generation" Art Exhibit

2015 Dec 18

Eastern students in Professor Elena Varshavskaya's Museums and Exhibitions art course assisted in the fall 2015 semester art exhibit.

Amy Dziewaltowski '16 of Coventry participated in curating the art exhibit, "Our Generation." Dziewaltowski's major is Business Administration and Visual Arts.

The exhibition was a multi-component exhibit that was displayed in Shafer Hall earlier in December.

The exhibition showcased the students' work from the class where they learned about the history of museums and the strategies behind how museums are organized and presented to the public. Students explored the theme of their generation, wrote an exhibition proposal and created display objects while introducing all of the elements in a series of essays.

The goal was to create their own exhibit for audience members to view. The students began planning their exhibit in mid-September. "I believe this was an invaluable professional experience that took education beyond the classroom," said Varshavskaya. "Additionally, this was a group effort, so all of the students demonstrated their ability to work as a collective of responsible and critically thinking individuals. I am very impressed and satisfied with this year's exhibition."

Varshavskaya recognizes deadlines and motivates her students to get things done. She has previous experience working in a museum setting, which helped give her students real-world experience. "This was my first experience in teaching this course at Eastern, and I'm ecstatic with the overall outcome," said Varshavskaya.
