Eastern Student-Athlete Rebecca DeFeo Makes LEC All-Academic Team

2017 Jul 11

Thirty-six student-athletes from Eastern Connecticut State University qualified for the Little East Conference (LEC) All-Academic Team in the spring 2017 semester. In order to qualify for the team, student-athletes must have achieved sophomore academic and athletic status with cumulative GPAs of at least 3.30.

Among the qualifiers is Rebecca DeFeo '17 of Richmond, a member of the softball team who majors in Biology.

Eastern's total was the third-highest among the eight LEC schools. In addition, Eastern won its third straight Presidents' Cup this past year as the conference's most outstanding academic school. The 36 qualifiers bring Eastern's total to 104 for the 2016-17 academic year, which is second-best in the conference. In addition to the spring's total, 47 Eastern student-athletes qualified for the all-academic team in the fall semester and 21 in the winter semester.

The Eastern men's and women's outdoor track & field teams combined for nearly half (15) of Eastern's total, with the women's team totaling a program-best eight. Men's track, softball and women's lacrosse followed with seven qualifiers each and baseball adding six.

Since the institution of the LEC All-Academic program in 2007-08, Eastern student-athletes have totaled 785 qualifiers, an average of 78.5 per year.
