Eastern Student Azeem Sherwani of West Hartford was Inducted into the Alpha Upsilon Chi Honors Society

2012 May 18

Azeem Sherwani '13 of West Hartford, CT, was one of 11 health and physical education majors at Eastern Connecticut State University who were inducted into Alpha Upsilon Chi, the national honor society for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sport and Dance, on April 26. The society establishes an intellectual climate by providing instruction for future professionals in the areas of health, physical education, recreation, and sport and dance, and recognizes students for their academic achievement, service and professional involvement in their field.

The international honor society Alpha Upsilon Chi was established in the 2005–06 academic year by Robert Horrocks, retired chair of the Health and Physical Education Department at Eastern Connecticut State University, to recognize undergraduate and graduate college students for their academic achievement, service, and professional involvement in the fields of health, physical education, recreation, sport and dance. Membership in this society also serves to encourage lifelong contributions to the students' chosen profession and to the global community in which they practice their craft.

In the seven years since its inauguration in spring 2006, Alpha Upsilon Chi has inducted 77 Eastern students into its membership.
