Eastern Student Clint Gosselin '16 of East Hartford Inducted Into History Honor Society

2016 Apr 11

A group of Eastern Connecticut State University students was recently inducted into Alpha Mu Alpha, Eastern's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society for the study of history.

Clint Gosselin '16 of East Hartford was one of the inductees. Gosselin's major is History and Social Science and Sociology.

"The Alpha Mu Alpha chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honors society, has welcomed its new members based on their academic achievements and intellectual promise. Their membership in Phi Alpha Theta brings them into a national community of scholars and educators dedicated to history," said History Professor Bradley Davis.

The society promotes the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. It is an American honor society for undergraduate and graduate students and professors of history and it has over 350,000 members, with about 9,500 new members joining each year through 860 local chapters.

During the ceremony, it was announced that Eastern student Annie Chozick '16 of West Hartford is the fourth recipient of the Department of History's Victoria Soto Award, established in 2013 weeks after the tragedy at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, CT. Soto was a History and Education double major at Eastern, and a member of Phi Alpha Theta. The award in her memory is given to a graduating senior in the History program, who is a member of Phi Alpha Theta and is planning on a teaching career following graduation. The recipient of the award is selected by the History faculty, and the memorial fund is supported by donations from faculty, students, and alumni.
