Eastern Student Craig Cyr of Tolland Completes Successful Internship at Wellstone Insurance

Craig Cyr '18 of Tolland recently completed an internship with Wellstone Insurance. Cyr's major is Finance.

Cyr functioned as a marketer for the agency while he was also trained as a property/causality insurance producer. As part of the position, he contacted new prospects and categorized his interactions with them as part of standard office procedure.

"My favorite thing about the position was that I had the freedom to create my own sales scripts. I was exposed to many sales conferences and also learned to differentiate between a good and bad sales tip," said Cyr.

"For me, the internship shed light on competitiveness and other factors that exist in the workplace. The internship taught me that there is plenty to learn from the status quo before embarking on bigger endeavors. A degree in the field I am pursuing is helpful, but experience is an essential must-have to compete in the field."

Cyr is interested in possibly pursuing financial analyst positions at larger corporations. The internship helped him determine the type of business environment in which he prefers to work. "Marketing strategies are rapidly changing and I am interested in building funds before capitalizing on new strategies five years from now," Cyr added.
