Eastern Student Daniel Manzi of Coventry Completes Successful Internship

2017 Jan 4

A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills.

Daniel Manzi '17 of Coventry recently completed an internship with Three Rivers Whitewater, Inc. Manzi's major is Business Administration.

Manzi was a marketing intern at the company, which is located in northern Maine. His responsibilties included creating and applying innovative ideas, video and photo capture, creating quality business contacts and organizing evening social events.

In addition, Three Rivers Whitewater offers their interns excellent perks. Besides assistance in living expenses he was also trained in being a whitewater rafting guide, and enjoyed discounted rates for skydiving and free rafting.

According to Manzi, his experience was about more than gaining knowledge, skills and the benefits of whitewater rafting. "You can make an actual impact on the company versus just learning from the company when you do an intership," said Manzi. He has a set of new skills that he has gained in terms of market research techniques, leadership, confidence and media editing skills, as well as experience in collaborating with other companies.

Manzi encourages students to complete an internship, especially those who are looking for careers in the fields of business, communications and graphic design. He believes internships are key in order to attain the skills and knowledge necessary for working in the industry a person is seeking out as a career.
