Eastern Student Emily Komornik of Shelton Completes Internship

2015 Sep 18

Eastern history and English major, Emily Komornik '16 of Shelton, recently completed a summer internship Durant Nichols Houston PC, an employment attorney office located in Bridgeport. She was assigned various tasks including assisting attorneys with researching and fact-checking pending cases, as well as reading and annotating related closed cases. She has also attended multiple depositions and mediations at the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities (CHRO) building in Hartford.

Komornik's opinion on internships is clear. "I now have experience in the 'real world' and more confidence in the skills that I have developed during the past three years at Eastern. Internships are important for experience in the workforce. You get to 'test drive' a possible career choice and they also help you when you are trying to make major decisions about the career you really want to pursue."

Emily is also busy compiling research papers, planning to present at research conferences during the 2015-16 academic year and is a member of Eastern's Honor Program. She is a recipient of various awards and will be writing a critical research paper during the spring 2016 semester.

After graduating in May 2016, Komornik is considering pursuing either a master's degree or Ph.D. in history, with an interest in publishing and archival work, or a law degree with a focus in employment and appellate law.
