Eastern Student Emma Costa of Mansfield Center Completes Successful Internship

2017 Feb 1

A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills.

Emma Costa '19 of Mansfield Center completed internships at Planned Parenthood in New Haven and Hartford. Costa's major is Women's and Gender Studies.

Her assigned tasks were as a peer sex educator and a political advocate. According to Costa, "I intend on perusing a doctorate in reproductive health care, so my work with Planned Parenthood will hopefully provide me with connections within the field. Working with them also gave me a base understanding of the work I will be doing someday."

"Internships build connections within your selected field and provide you with job experience that makes you more attractive to employers within the field. They can give you knowledge beyond your education and perhaps even change your career choices."

Costa plans on pursuing a doctorate and wants \to become a professor.
