Eastern Student Enidza Torres of New Britain Engages in Successful Internship

2017 Apr 20

A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills.

Enidza Torres '17 of New Britain is currently engaged in an internship at Eastern's Center for Community Engagement (CCE). Torres's major is Communication.

As part of her internship, Torres works with a CCE student leader and attends weekly programs and special events during which she is assigned to do photography and interview student volunteers about their experiences. She has also contributed information for the student newspaper, The Campus Lantern, and has assisted in encouraging CCE student volunteers to participate in discussing their experiences on student radio station WESC 90.1 FM.

According to Torres, "My favorite part of my internship is not only attending all of the events, but also witnessing how engaged Eastern students are in the local community."

She also enjoys spreading the word about the CCE, the impact of its volunteers and their influence on the Willimantic community via social media platforms.

Her advice to other students seeking internships? "Try something new. Don't worry about whether or not your work will be perfect as there are plenty of people who are willing to make sure you succeed and gain the skills you need."

Torres hopes to gain better media literacy skills and form lasting connections via her internship experience.
