Eastern Student Jeremy Battye Participated in Coventry Penguin Plunge

2012 Dec 24

Jeremy Battye '16 of Reading, MA, plunged into the waters of Coventry Lake at Patriot's Park on Dec. 1 for the annual Coventry Penguin Plunge to raise money for the Special Olympics. Students collected donations from family, friends and local businesses.

The "Penguin Plunge" fundraiser was created to provide funding for the Special Olympics' athletic competition for adults and children with disabilities. The Special Olympics offers its participants opportunities to develop and demonstrate their talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public's awareness of their capabilities and needs.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
