Eastern Student Jonah Craggett of New Haven Recognized For Demonstrating the Ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

2015 Mar 25

Jonah Craggett '15 of New Haven, CT, was recognized at the 20th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Service Awards reception earlier this semester. Sponsored by the University's Intercultural Center, these awards are designed to recognize members of the community who effectively demonstrate the ideals by which Dr. King lived. Craggett's major is English.

Craggett was recognized for his excellence as a resident assistant in Noble Hall. Hall Director Alicia McKenzie described Craggett's role in the dormitory. "Jonah has been much more than a role model and resource for his peers. He has been an effective liaison by helping build a foundation in better understanding underrepresented and marginalized communities for his residents and helping to identify their role."

Craggett also gave a heartfelt acceptance speech during which he outlined his motivation for the things he does. "I dedicate this award to my late brother, Jacob Craggett. Everything I do, I do for him and for young children of color everywhere. Your lives really matter, and they are worth so much than you can even comprehend."
