Eastern Student Kaitlyn Tomascak of Newtown Engages in Successful Internship

2017 Apr 20

A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills.

Kaitlyn Tomascak '17 of Newtown is currently engaged in an internship at Hale YMCA Youth and Family Center. Tomascak's major is Psychology.

When looking for an internship, Tomascak knew she wanted to procure one that would help her advance in her field of interest; her dream job is to become a hospital-based family support clinician.

As part of her internship, she is assisting in planning and organizing an event named Healthy Kids Day by researching vendors and encouraging participation in the event which is being held on April 29, 2017. She also meets regularly with her supervisor to discuss upcoming plans or updates, then assists in educating and supervising children at the YMCA daycare for the rest of the day.

According to Tomascak, "One of the most rewarding aspects about my internship is that I have had the privilege of watching the children learn and grow during the duration of my assignment."

Her advice to other students? "If you are a student and interested in an internship, take a risk and apply. It can turn into a great opportunity in the end. Any internship experience is good experience to add to your resume."
