Eastern Student Karolina Chrzanowska of Southington Completes Semester-Long Internship

2015 Dec 18

Karolina Chrzanowska '16 of Southington recently wrapped up an internship at Blum Shapiro. Chrzanowska's major is Accounting.

Chrzanowska worked as an auditing intern and helped perform audits on municipalities, nonprofits and benefit plans. Her duties included performing single-audit testing and benefit payment testing..

"I think that my internship has given me real-world experience in my field. It was a very different learning experience from what a student experiences in school. I was treated the same way a new staff would be treated and that really gave me a good perspective on my career," said Chrzanowska. "It allowed me to test the waters and see whether I really enjoy the career I am pursuing."

"Internships are important because they give students a test run at their career."

The Center for Internships and Career Development is a valuable resource for students as it promotes strong partnerships between Eastern and potential employers. The Center plays an integral role in fostering excellence in career development and preparation among Eastern students and provides current information on the real workforce needs of employers, which students can use to their advantage. It also helps employment recruiters discover, recruit and hire Eastern students and alumni. They also work closely with companies who are hiring for internships or entry-level career positions in order to learn current and future workforce requirements. They then communicate this information to academic departments to align curriculum with labor market needs.
