Eastern Student Kurt Turnier of Stamford Completes Semester-Long Internship

2015 Jul 28

Kurt Turnier '15 of Stamford recently wrapped up an internship at Eastern's Department of Housing and Resedential Life. Turnier's major is Business Administration.

Turnier worked as a housing intern and had a variety of responsibilities. The most notable responsibilities included evaluating the school's Themed Housing initiative, analyzing department assessment data and examining the best practices that are implemented into professional training programs.

When asked about his internship, Turnier replied, "Interning for the Office of Housing and Residential Life helped expand my knowledge of student affairs and higher education, which will help me when I pursue a career. There are a variety of departments in this field and starting within the housing department will help me get my foot in the door for others."

Turnier also spoke of the importance of networking. "Keep asking around. Current and former employers, friends and family can all help in your job search. You can even contact administrators directly and ask if they have internship opportunities that relate to your goals."

The Center for Internships and Career Development is a valuable resource for students as it promotes strong partnerships between Eastern and potential employers. The Center plays an integral role in fostering excellence in career development and preparation among Eastern students and provides current information on the real workforce needs of employers, which students can use to their advantage. It also helps employment recruiters discover, recruit and hire Eastern students and alumni. They also work closely with companies who are hiring for internships or entry-level career positions in order to learn current and future workforce requirements. They then communicate this information to academic departments to align curriculum with labor market needs.
