Eastern Student Lara Colegrove of Bristol Completes Study Abroad to Australia

2017 Jul 12

Lara Colegrove '18 of Bristol recently completed a study abroad trip to Australia. Colegrove's major is Sociology.

While studying at LaTrobe University in Melbourne during the spring semester, Colgrove discovered that she wasn't the only person drawn to Australia from other countries. "I didn't expect to meet so many people from different parts of the world. It was an amazing experience and being able to see everything there was great."

Colegrove took courses in Australian Cities and Regions; Discovering Australia; Communication Language and Culture; and Sociology of Culture.

"From meeting new people to taking new classes in a different environment and living in an entirely new space -- the entire experience was such an opportunity. Studying abroad really helps you to open up and be yourself," said Colegrove.

Many students take the opportunity to study abroad during their time at Eastern. Studying abroad assists students in becoming more independent and confident. It helps them improve their communication skills, learn new languages and experience cultural differences first-hand. Students can build a strong resume as well as earn credits, all while traveling the world.
