Eastern Student Mackenzie Williams of Bolton Attends National Conference on Undergraduate Research in North Carolina

2016 May 2

Ten Eastern Connecticut State University students presented at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) in Asheville, NC, from April 7-9.The conference was established in 1987 and is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity in all field of study.

Mackenzie Williams '16 of Bolton was one of the attendees. Williams majors in Visual Arts and Business Administration. Williams's research project was titled "Dynamic Continuity: The Power of Adaptability in the Graphic Design Industry." "One of the hardest things I discovered with my topic is that graphic design, because it's such a young industry, is relatively undefined," said Williams. "A lot of researchers have tried to define it and nobody can agree. So the first step in doing your research in graphic design is to kind of create your own concept for what you believe design is."

Professor Carlos Escoto, undergraduate research and creative activity coordinator at Eastern, chaperoned students on the NCUR trip. "The students got a lot out of the conference," he said. "The students' presentations were great and they all sat in on each other's. The trip had a great sense of comradery."
