Eastern Student MaggieMarie Casto of Andover Attends Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival

2015 Feb 18

Several students from Eastern Connecticut State University recently attended the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF). These students participated in theatre workshops, scholarship competitions, attended shows and networked with theatre students and faculty from different universities in New England.

MaggieMarie Casto '16 of Andover, MA, attended the KCACTF. Casto's major is Theatre. Maggie Casto competed in the preliminary round for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Competition in recognition for her performance in "South Pacific," an Eastern theatrical production. She also competed in the final round for Stage Management.

Theatre Professor Ellen Brodie said "KCACTF is always an eye-opening experience for our students as they meet, work with and compete against hundreds of other theatre students from throughout the region." Students competed for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship; the Richard Maltby, Jr. Musical Theatre Awards; Merit Awards and Stage Management. Several Eastern students earned awards and two students received internships to work at the festival.

"Most importantly, it is experiential learning at its core and also professional development for the faculty attending," said Brodie. "This year proved to be extremely worthwhile in all aspects."
