Eastern Student Matthew Witkowski of North Grosvenordale Engaged in Internship

2015 Nov 30

A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills.

Matthew Witkowski '16 of North Grosvenordale is working as an intern for Cigna. Witkowski's major is Business Information Systems.

Witkowski is functioning as an information management (IM) security analyst. He is performing security audits for IM assets and improving role-based access controls to align with the enterprise access management tool. He has also created several dashboards for security metrics for IM.

His favorite part of the internship is working with his passion, new technology. "My internship will help me build a solid foundation upon which I can build my career. It will provide me with the basics about how a large global firm does business and operates," said Witkowski.

Witkowski has already accepted a job offer with Cigna. "Internships are important for students because it gives them first-hand experience in their chosen field. You don't get that in the classroom."
