Eastern Student Megan Velasquez of South Windsor Awarded Scholarship at "English Night"

2015 Dec 21

Two star students majoring in English at Eastern Connecticut State University were awarded scholarships at the department's annual showcase "English Night."

Megan Velasquez '16 of South Windsor was awarded the David and Janet Philips Scholarship. She majors in English and Theatre.

"Megan's professors are always impressed by her contributions to discussions," said Lisa Fraustino, chair of the English Department, "but as a double major, she has also had a hand in more than 10 Eastern theatre productions."

The scholarship was established in honor of David and Janet Philips by their children, Donald, Kimberly, Evan, and Sandra (all Eastern graduates). It is funded through contributions from family, friends and colleagues of David Philips, Eastern English Professor Emeritus, who retired from teaching in 1990. It is awarded annually to an undergraduate student who has excelled in the field of English, and has participated in theater, the student literary journal "Eastern Exposure" or the student news paper "Campus Lantern."
