Eastern Student Mira Watterson Participates in Book Drive

2011 Nov 9

Mira Watterson of Pomfret Center, CT, was one of 21 volunteers participating in the Book Drive at Eastern Connecticut State University. Watterson is a Pre-Elementary Education major.

Eastern Connecticut State University's Center of Community Engagement worked alongside the University's People Helping People student club to organize a book drive on campus. The book drive collected more than 900 books, which will be distributed to Windham schoolchildren. Anyone still wishing to donate is welcome to drop off gently used books at the Center for Community Engagement, located in the Wood Support Services Building.

The Center for Community Engagement is responsible for encouraging civic duty on campus and throughout the Eastern community. People Helping People regularly volunteers on campus and informs students on important social issues such as poverty, hunger and education. Eastern students who participate in People Helping People have the opportunity to develop leadership and interpersonal skills.

Eastern Connecticut State University is part of the Connecticut State University System (CSUS) and is the state's public liberal arts university. Eastern serves more than 5,000 students each year on its Willimantic campus.
