Eastern Student Mya Villard Named to Basketball Team

2017 Dec 15

The Eastern Connecticut State University men's and women's basketball teams are looking to extend their domination of the Little East Conference (LEC) in the 2017-18 season. Despite the LEC growing more and more competitive each season, both teams believe they have the talent and leadership needed to bring home a championship.

Among the students on the team this season is Mya Villard '20 of Cromwell, who majors in Criminology and plays forward.

For the men's team, there is plenty of reason to be hopeful. The team brings back a core of award-winning veterans, while also bringing in a new group of raw offensive talent. Thanks to impressive preseason tournament play, the Warriors were named the No. 24 team on D3hoops.com top 25 list. Only time will tell how far this team's impressive talent and potential can take them.

While the women's team did not receive a preseason ranking, the team is still loaded with championship-caliber players. Talent aside however, this group of Warrior's will need to remain poised and motivated this season in order to live up to their potential. The team brings back a group of veterans that will be asked to provide much-needed leadership to an incoming group of young guns. Look for this team to make a big splash in a crowded field of LEC contenders.

The Little East Conference (LEC) was established in 1986 as a single-sport league by six public institutions throughout New England. The LEC has since become a multi-sport league with eight primary members, six affiliate members and 19 championships.
