Eastern Student Mya Villard of Cromwell Concludes Successful Season with Warriors Basketball Team

2017 Mar 28

The Eastern Connecticut State University Women's Basketball team concluded its 2016-17 season this March with a stellar 20-9 record, with a phenomenal 12-2 record against conference opponents and an 11-4 record at home. The team reached the Little East Conference (LEC) championship game but unfortunately came up short against Keene State.

Among the team's student-athletes was Mya Villard '20 of Cromwell, who played forward. Villard majors in Criminology.

Villard averaged 9.4 points per game, 6 rebounds per game and 0.8 assists per game. "No one we play against will be more physically strong than Mya and that's why she can play inside at her size," said Coach Denise Bierly. "She's not tall but she clears out space and she's a beast on the boards. She's consistent, reliable, and confident, and that's key for a freshman."

Despite losing in the LEC championship, the Eastern Warriors competed in the NCAA Division 3 Tournament.
