Eastern Student Nicole Fretz of Newington Engaged in Successful Internship

2017 Mar 7

A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills.

Nicole Fretz '17 of Newington is currently doing an internship with Infinex Financial Group. Fretz's major is Finance.

Fretz is interested in a career in finance after she graduates in May 2017. Her career goal is to become a financial or business analysis for a well-known company. She knew that she wanted an internship that would go hand-in-hand with her major. After a few months of trying to find an internship, she was ecstatic when Infinex Financial Group offered her an intern position.

Her responsibilities include answering and returning phone calls, listening in on client meetings and using company databases to record client meetings and product purchases.

Fretz said, "The most interesting part about my internship is getting to discuss various investment products with the advisor and getting feedback about which options clients actually choose."

Based on her internship, Fretz hopes to gain real-world experience that will benefit her in future endeavors.

Fretz's advice to other students seeking internships? "Try to obtain an internship in the career that you believe you're going to want to pursue -- that way, by the end of it, you will hopefully know for sure whether or not you want to spend the rest of your life doing exactly that."
