Eastern Student Percussionist Noah Lerch of Niantic Performs in Spring Concert

2016 May 16

Student musicians at Eastern Connecticut State University performed in the Performing Arts Department's academic year-end concert in the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) on May 1.

Noah Lerch '18 of Niantic, who majors in Music, was among the student performers.

The Eastern Percussion Ensemble performs a broad spectrum of musical styles from the original and transcribed works of the percussion and marimba ensemble repertoire.

Directed by Professor Jeffery Calissi, the ensemble performed several selections, including "Arabian Processional," "Triplets," "Absolute Draws Near Lydia," "Alter Ego," "Hands Up!," "Cloud Forest," "Machine from Fifth Symphony" and "Scuttlebutt."

Percussion studies at Eastern provide students with the opportunity to explore all facets of percussion performance and education within an individualized studio environment. The curriculum is designed to develop a high level of musicianship and performance, and give the student a variety of enriching musical opportunities. In addition to several concerts each semester, Eastern percussionists are given frequent opportunities to play with other ensembles on pieces that require percussion such as Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers and Opera Workshop.

This ensemble will continue to entertain Eastern students, faculty and community members with music from a wide variety of styles and eras, focusing not only on traditional works in the percussion repertoire but also on unique percussion styles.
