Eastern Student Samantha Walter Studied Abroad in Italy During Summer of 2015

2015 Dec 18

During the summer 2015 semester, Samantha Walter '17 of Wethersfield embraced the opportunity to study abroad in Italy. When asked about the decision to study abroad, Walter replied, "I loved meeting students from all over America who were studying abroad too. It was interesting hearing about what other American students' schools and hometowns are like and we joked about the differences in our accents."

Describing the experience, Walter, who majors in Environmental Earth Science and Pre-Secondary Education Certification, said, "Traveling throughout Italy was incredible! The last weekend we visited Pisa and spent a day in Florence, where we visited a winery and had a wonderful meal. Every part of Italy is interesting and unique!"

The Study Abroad Office at Eastern Connecticut State University helps many students study abroad each year. Study abroad allows students to experience the world and the global community. They can gain cultural insight while living and studying along with students of a host country for a full semester or academic year, while earning Eastern Connecticut State University credits.

Studying abroad allows students to become more independent and confident. It helps them improve their communication skills, learn new languages, and experience cultural differences first-hand. Students can build a strong resume as well as earn credits, all while traveling the world.
