Eastern Student Summer Lily Egan of Colchester Presents at COPLAC Research Conference

2015 Mar 17

Summer Lily Egan '15, an Eastern Connecticut State University student from Colchester, presented at the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges' (COPLAC) Northeast Regional Research Conference this past fall semester at Keene State College in New Hampshire.

Egan majors in Communication. Egan’s project was titled “Deceptive Food Labeling and Advertising.” Her research fell under the category of “communication law and ethics.” Under the mentorship of Communication Professor Teri Toles-Patkin, Egan presented her research in the form of a poster presentation.

“I am someone who loves to do research and be creative, so I figured why not look into something I am passionate about: maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Egan. “I also wanted to learn more about the topic of unethical food labeling practices. With this project, I was able to prove how and why consumers often do not know how to eat in the most healthful way. I even handed out my own survey and conducted research on Eastern students, which was my favorite part of this whole adventure.”

“As a college student, going to this conference was extremely beneficial because I was given the opportunity to enhance my public speaking skills as well as network with other young professional students,” said Egan.
