Eastern Student Tashanna Edwards of Norwich Completes Successful Internship

2017 Feb 1

A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills.

Tashanna Edwards '17 of Norwich completed an internship with Windham Public Schools. Edwards's major is Communication.

"My internship was with the communication officer. I attended various events at the town's public schools and photographed and interviewed people. I also wrote for the newsletter that is routinely placed on their website under the corresponding schools' web pages," said Edwards.

"My favorite part of the internship was visiting the differents schools and writing the newletters. My internship is already helping me in that it has given me the opportunity to experience working in a professional environment. Because of this, I was invited to work part-time with the same amazing people in Windham Public Schools once my internship was done."

"I believe internships give students the opportunity to get a preview of what they'll experience in the real world once they get a job. They may also discover that the position they thought they wanted doesn't work for them and they may want to seek out a different job or field."

Edwards loves to write and is working on publishing a novel. "Once I graduate, I am hoping to continue with creative writing and hope to obtain a position in the communications field that involves writing."
