Eastern Student Vanessa Hill of Cape Coral Presents Research Project at State History Conference

2018 Apr 10

Eastern Connecticut State University students presented undergraduate research projects on April 6 at "Making History," the annual conference of CSU History Departments. This year's event was held at Western Connecticut State University.

Vanessa Hill '18 of Cape Coral, FL, presented a research project titled "Religion, Culture and Gender: The Black American Experience." Hill is majoring in History and Social Science.

The conference is the outcome of the vision of the chairs of the four Connecticut State University Departments of History, who conceived of the conference as a forum for presentations and a preprofessional experience for students. It is also a networking opportunity for history students and faculty and a resource to enhance cross-campus collaborations.

Professor Thomas Balcerki was the mentor for the students. Professor Bradley Davis participated in a roundtable session titled "New Directions in Vietnamese History: Recent Work from Three CSU Historians."

Department Chair and Professor of History Joan Meznar said, "Once again Eastern students impressed with the high quality of their research and the professionalism of their presentations."

"I plan to attend law school and become a civil rights attorney," said Hill, who will also be presenting her research at Eastern's Celebrating Research Excellence and Artistic Talent at Eastern conference in April.
