Eastern Swimmer Megan Lasto Named Rookie of the Week

Eastern Connecticut State University swimmer Megan Lasto of Orange received the Little East Conference (LEC) Rookie Swimmer of-the-Week Award for the week of Oct. 29. This is the first award of Lasto's young career. She is a Visual Arts major.

The freshman began her career on a high note. In her opening weekend, Lasto won the University of Saint Joseph pentathlon, while also swimming the anchor on two winning relays at the same event. The next day, against Bridgewater State University and Regis College, Lasto won three individual events and contributed to a winning relay. The events won included the 100 butterfly, the 200 individual medley and the 200 freestyle.

The Little East Conference was established on April 28, 1986 as a single sport league by six public institutions located throughout New England. The LEC member men's and women's basketball teams commenced play in 1986-87 with double round-robin regular season and six-team championship tournament. The Little East Conference has since become a multi-sport league with eight primary members, six affiliate members and 19 championships.

Eastern offers a broad-based, Division III athletic program aimed at safeguarding the amateur aspects of the various sports and maintaining the proper perspective of athletics within Eastern's academic mission.
