Elizabeth Del Buono of Southington Interns with The Jackson Laboratory

Eastern student Elizabeth Del Buono '17 of Southington completed a 2015 summer internship with The Jackson Laboratory (JAX), a prestigious biomedical research center based in Farmington.

During the paid Summer Student Program, Del Buono, a Biology major, worked in the lab of Edison Liu, president and CEO of JAX. Her research involved investigating genetic mutations that contribute to chemotherapy sensitivity in breast cancer.

"My research was one of many projects that JAX scientists are working on to find personalized treatments for people based on genetics and genomics. I was surrounded by some of the most brilliant and passionate individuals in the world, and was immersed in the race to find an answer, a gene, a treatment, a cure."
