Jennifer Croteau Presents at COPLAC in Mansfield

2017 Oct 23

A group of student researchers from Eastern Connecticut State University recently presented at the annual northeast conference for the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC). From Oct. 13-14, Eastern was one of eight colleges to participate in the symposium, this year located at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.

Among the students was Jennifer Croteau '19 who presented a poster titled "Developing 3-Dimensional Photogrammetry Models of Jurassic Conglomerates in Central CT." Croteau resides in North Kingstown and majors in environmental earth science.

"This study investigates the use of imaging and mapping techniques to build 3-D digital models and construct high-resolution photographic logs of conglomerates within the Newark geological terrane near Glastonbury, CT," wrote Croteau in her project abstract. "Techniques presented in this project illustrate the many ways in which new 3-D modeling can be used for geological visualization and analysis."

"COPLAC is unique from other conferences because it celebrates the Liberal Arts, therefore there was a variety of research topics represented," said Croteau. "Conducting and presenting research as an undergraduate is not only a great experience that prepares me for either gradate school or a future career, but it helps to identify my interests within my field."

COPLAC is a consortium of 30 public liberal arts colleges and universities spanning 28 states and one Canadian province. Established in 1987, it serves to promote the value of a public liberal arts education.
