Noah Lerch of Niantic Performs in Eastern Connecticut State University's Percussion Ensemble Fall Concert

2015 Dec 11

The Eastern Connecticut State University Percussion Ensemble recently presented their fall concert in Shafer Auditorium.

Noah Lerch '18 of Niantic was one of the students who performed in the concert. Lerch's major is English and Music.

The Eastern Percussion Ensemble performs a broad spectrum of musical styles from the original and transcribed works of the percussion and marimba ensemble repertoire. Eastern percussionists perform in the Concert Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble and are given frequent opportunities to perform alongside the Concert Chorale and in the Opera Workshop for pieces that require percussion.

Directed by Professor Jeffery Calissi, the ensemble performed several selections, including "Overture for Percussion," "Lost Souls," "Songo Concertino," "Storm Warning and Dance," "Clapping Music," "Escaping a Nightmare" and "Cantina Band," providing a unique and entertaining show.

This ensemble will continue to entertain Eastern students, faculty and community members with music from a wide variety of styles and eras, focusing not only on traditional works in the percussion repertoire but also on unique styles such as traditional West African hand drumming.
