Rachel Berkowsky Inducted into Honor Society for Kinesiology and Physical Education

2017 Jun 14

Twenty students from the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education at Eastern Connecticut State University were inducted into the Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Upsilon Chi (AUC) honor society this spring 2017 semester. AUC is the international honor society for health, physical education, recreation, sport and dance, and was established to recognize college students for their academic achievement and professional involvement in the field.

Among the inductees was Rachel Berkowsky '18 of Stoughton, who majors in Sport & Leisure Management. Berkowsky was additionally recognized for Outstanding Academic Achievement within the sport and leisure major.

Eastern founded AUC in 2006, and has since inducted more than 100 majors into the honor society. As always, the event was dedicated to Dana Clark, department chair and professor of physical education from 1967-85, whose initiative developed Eastern's physical education major and saw the program graduate its first seven students in 1982.

The event's keynote speaker was Jimmy Olayos '10, clinical director at Sports Performance Enhancement and Rehabilitation (SPEAR) in Brooklyn, NY. His primary interests include outpatient sports medicine, post-operative rehabilitation, gait and runner biomechanics, and high level strength and conditioning. As an Eastern student, Olayos was a member of the basketball team and a member of the school's athletic training staff.
