Women's Soccer: Eastern Student Maggie Bodington of Stratford Named LEC Defensive Player-of-the-Week

2016 Oct 6

Maggie Bodington '18 of Stratford, majoring in Elementary Education, has been named Little East Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Week in the fifth weekly women's soccer report of the year, released Monday, October 3.

Bodington, an All-America defender on the women's soccer team, is a two-time first-team All-LEC and 2015 third-team NSCAA Division III All-America selection. She played all 200 minutes in a 1-0-1 week when Eastern gave up only one goal and lowered its team goals-against average to 1.06 as she received the weekly honor for the first time since the seventh report of her freshman season in 2014.

Bodington becomes the program's third LEC Defensive Player-of-the-Week in five weeks. She joins junior defender Krista Petersen (Wallingford), who earned the honor twice previously this season.

In addition to her defense, Bodington also contributed her team-high third assist on a go-ahead goal in a 1-1 double-overtime tie with 2015 Little East Conference playoff champion Western Connecticut which extended the Warriors' unbeaten streak in Little East Conference regular-season play to 14 matches (13-0-1).

Eastern (7-2-1 / 2-0-1 LEC) ranks third in the conference overall in least goals allowed (11) and least average goals allowed (1.06). With Bodington, Eastern's opponents average just less than ten shots per game and just less than five shots on goal per match.
