'Three Sisters' and 'The Burrow': Eastern announces spring theatre productions

Willimantic, CT (02/12/2026) — Eastern Connecticut State University's Department of Communication, Film, and Theatre is proud to present two theatrical productions in spring 2026, ranging from a bittersweet tale of family and homesickness to a new, dystopian musical.

Each will feature an all-student cast and will take place in venues within the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC).

Tickets are free for Eastern students, $5 each for groups of students or groups of 10 or more, $10 for senior citizens, $12 for faculty and staff, and $20 for the general public.

'Three Sisters' - March 3-8

A new adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play, "Three Sisters" by Sarah Ruhl will show March 3-8 in the Delmonte Bernstein Studio Theater. The adaptation is based on a literal translation by Elise Thoron, with Natasha Paramonova and Kristin Johnsen-Neshati, and directed by Rachel Jett.

The play follows three sisters - schoolteacher Olga, unhappily married Masha, and perfectionist Irina - who have relocated from their native Moscow to a provincial Russian town. They dream of a return to their childhood city, where they imagine opportunities to transform their lives, and grapple with the distance between this dream and their reality.

"Three Sisters" will be presented March 3, 4, and 6 at 7:30 p.m.; March 5 at 5:30 p.m.; and March 7 and 8 at 2 p.m.

'The Burrow' - April 22-26

"The Burrow," the semester's mainstage production, will show April 22-26 in the Proscenium Theater. A new musical written and directed by Melanie Guerin, the play follows a group of young people who have made their home in the "Burrow," an underground cave system. Recent Eastern alum Ash Fischer '24 will serve as stage manager.

The group awaits the return of the "Guardians," their caretakers whose return is overdue after a long stay in the "Fray" above and who left the group a set of rules. Older, the group's designated leader, does her best to maintain order.

As Older approaches the age when she will join the Guardians in the Fray, a wrongdoing by her sister Younger threatens the safety of the Burrow. Older takes the blame, relinquishing her authority to a new order. When a stranger arrives, Older begins to question her understanding of the world around her.

"The Burrow" will show April 22 and 24 at 7:30 p.m.; April 23 at 5:30 p.m.; and April 25 and 26 at 2 p.m.
