Advisory: Eastern to Hold Ribbon-Cutting for Newly Re-Opened Buildings

Willimantic, CT (12/13/2019) — Eastern Connecticut State University will hold a formal ribbon-cutting on Dec. 16 to celebrate the re-opening of Goddard Hall and the Communication Building. The event will occur in the lobby of the Communication Building from 10-11 a.m.

Dignitaries on hand will include Eastern President Elsa Núñez; Mark Ojakian, president of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities; Noel Petra, deputy commissioner of Real Estate and Construction Services; representatives from the architectural and building contractor; and student and staff representatives.

The adjoining academic buildings underwent major renovations over the past two years-the second and final phase (Goddard) opened at the start of this past fall 2019 semester. Communication Building Highlights include a new television studio and control room, radio station and audio/video production/editing suites. Goddard Hall highlights include new labs for psychology and physical education.

The total cost of construction for the project was $21,541,803. Total renovated square footage is 69,095. Both buildings received new windows, roofing, insulation and MEP Systems. They were also designed and constructed in accordance with the Connecticut High Performance Building Standards.
