Eastern announces spring 2025 music calendar
Willimantic, CT (02/10/2025) — The Department of Music at Eastern Connecticut State University has announced its live music calendar for the spring 2025 semester. All events will take place within venues of the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) and are free and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.
- Saturday, Feb 22: "A Celebration of Women Composers" will feature student and faculty pianists performing works written by female composers from a diverse range of eras and cultures. This event will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall.
- Saturday, March 1: The music department's Faculty Recital Series will present "Art Song Recital: A Celebration of Women Composers" at 2:30 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall. Eastern faculty members Emily Riggs, soprano, and David Ballena, piano, will be joined by cellist Peter Zay on a program of works by composers Cecile Chaminade, Libby Larsen, Missy Mazzoli, Clara Schumann, and Undine Smith Moore.
- Saturday, March 8: "Under a Starry Sky" is a gala in collaboration with the ECSU Foundation to benefit Eastern's voice and opera programs, taking place at 7 p.m. in the FAIC Concert Hall. The evening will feature a cocktail hour, silent auction, and performances. Proceeds will advance educational and pre-professional experiences for undergraduate voice and opera students and provide essential funding for the university's youth opera initiative, "Opera for All." - Thursday, March 27: In "Chorale and Friends!" Eastern's Concert Chorale will welcome guest choir from Escuela de Bellas Artes, Puerto Rico, in a performance with a broad variety of chorale works in the FAIC Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.
- Monday, March 31: Voice Studio Recital: "A Celebration of Women composers": Students from the voice studio will present a recital of art songs and arias celebrating the contributions of women composers at 12:30 p.m. in the FAIC foyer.
- Friday, April 4: The faculty recital series will continue with guitarist Evan Delaney '21 in the FAIC concert hall at 7:30 p.m.
- Monday, April 14: Piano students will showcase their progress in a piano studio recital in the FAIC Concert Hall at 3:00 p.m.
- Friday, April 25: "Passion and Peril: an Evening of Scenes from Opera and Operetta" will be showcased by the opera program in the FAIC Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. This event will feature scenes from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," "Idomeno" and "La Clemenzadi Tito," Verdi's "Macbeth," Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Gondoliers," and Strauss' "Die Fliedermaus."
- Sunday, April 27: The Honors Recital and Awards Ceremony will commemorate the achievements of music students in a performance in the FAIC Concert Hall at 2:30 p.m.
- Monday, April 28: Eastern's Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers will hold its annual concert at 7:30 p.m. This performance will feature alumni of the program in a reflection of the last 20 years, and will mark music professor and conductor David Belles' final performance. - Wednesday, April 30: Eastern's Jazz program will commemorate the 14th annual International Jazz Day with a jam session in the FAIC foyer at 2:00 p.m.
- Wednesday, April 30: The Eastern Concert Band will perform alongside the Charter Oak Brass Band in a joint concert in the FAIC Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.
- Friday, May 2: The percussion ensemble will perform its annual concert of instrumental pieces old and new in the FAIC concert hall at 7:30 p.m.
- Monday, May 5: Eastern's Big Band and 3 O'clock Jazz band will continue its celebration of jazz in the FAIC foyer at 7:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, May 6: In the penultimate performance of the semester, student chamber ensembles within Eastern's music department will showcase repertoire from the Baroque era to the present in the FAIC Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m.
- Wednesday, May 7: The Music Department will conclude the spring semester with a screening of the silent film "Metropolis" at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall. The film will feature soundscapes created by Eastern students enrolled in the department's course on multimedia composition.
