Eastern named to The Princeton Review's list of 'Best Colleges' in Northeast

Willimantic, CT (09/01/2021) — Eastern Connecticut State University is one of the 223 best colleges in the Northeast according to The Princeton Review. The education services company listed Eastern in the Best in the Northeast section of its "2022 Best Colleges: Region by Region" website feature posted on Aug. 31, 2021, at https://www.princetonreview.com/bestNEcolleges.

The Princeton Review recognized 655 colleges in five regions - the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West and International. The 655 colleges represent only 23 percent of the nation's four-year colleges. The Princeton Review considered its selections from hundreds of institutions in each region, using academics as their primary criterion. They also weighed what students attending the schools reported about their campus experiences.

"We chose Eastern and the other outstanding institutions on this list primarily for their academics," said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review's editor-in-chief. He noted that the company considered data from its survey of administrators at several hundred colleges in each region, information from staff visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of college counselors and advisors whose perspectives the company solicits. "We also consider what students enrolled at the schools reported to us on our student survey about their campus experiences," Franek added.

"We are very pleased to be recognized by The Princeton Review as a top university in the Northeast," said Eastern President Elsa Nunez. "This recognition is a validation of our academic programs and the liberal arts education we provide our students. The fact the rankings also consider the opinions of our students makes this even more special - knowing we are providing students a relevant education that they find meaningful is very gratifying."

The Princeton Review survey asks students to rate their colleges on dozens of issues and to answer questions about themselves, their fellow students, and their campus life. One student said professors are "very inspiring" and "engaging because they seem to love what they are teaching." Another student wrote that, "I struggled in high school due to lack of guidance services and I now have all A's because my professors answer all questions and are very knowledgeable." Students also appreciate campus life opportunities: "You are able to make many new friends and memories that will last you a lifetime."

The Princeton Review school profiles include ratings in six categories from "Academics" to "Green." The ratings are scores from 60 to 99, which the company tallies primarily from institutional data, as well as some student survey data.

The 223 colleges that The Princeton Review chose for its "Best in the Northeast" 2022 list are located in 11 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont -- and the District of Columbia.
