Eastern's Music Program presents spring main stage events

Willimantic, CT (04/06/2023) — Eastern Connecticut State University's Music Program will host several large-scale performances in April and May. All events will take place in the Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Concert Hall.

On April 15 at 4 p.m., Eastern's Opera Workshop will host "Una Bella Notte." This afternoon event will include renditions of scenes from Italian opera and operetta by Mozart, Cimarosa, Donizetti, Franz von Suppe, and Gilbert and Sullivan.

Eastern's annual Honors Recital will take place April 23 at 2:30 p.m. This series of solo performances will be followed by the presentation of the music program's first-year merit awards and music scholarships as well as a reception in the FAIC's Susan Sukman McCray Foyer.

On April 24 at 7:30 p.m., Eastern's Concert Chorale and Friends will host its spring semester concert. The performance will feature Howard Hanson's "Song of Democracy" and Leonard Bernstein's "Chichester Psalms" for piano and percussion.

Two ensemble performances will round out the April calendar. The percussion ensemble will perform April 28 at 7:30 p.m., and the jazz ensemble and jazz combo will play April 29 at 5 p.m. The student-led jazz combo will interpret jazz standards, and the jazz ensemble, directed by Professsor Anthony Cornicello, will play jazz big band selections. Both the Friday and Saturday performances are ticket-free and open to the public.

Eastern's Concert Band will close the semester on May 3 at 7:30 p.m. with "Infinity," a concert program that will explore the realm of space. The program will include compositions by Katahj Copley, Kevin Day, Omar Thomas, Katherine Bergman and John Williams.
