Eastern's Music Program to present full calendar of events in spring 2022

Willimantic, CT (01/27/2022) — Eastern Connecticut State University's Music Program will present a variety of concerts and recitals this spring 2022 semester. All events will take place in the Fine Arts Instructional Center's (FAIC) Concert Hall and are free and open to the public. Tickets are not required unless otherwise noted.

On Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m., voice students will pay tribute to composers Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms in a recital of German Lieder.

On Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m., piano students and faculty will pay tribute to the three composers above in a piano gala.

On March 4 at 7:30 p.m., as a part of the Faculty Recital Series, the Straight-Up Jazz Trio and special guests will perform a series of jazz standards.

On March 5 at 2:30 p.m., the first part of the Faculty Chamber Music Recital will celebrate Schubert, Mendelssohn and Brahms by performing some of their most popular chamber music works.

On March 25 at 7:30 p.m., the second part of the Faculty Chamber Music Recital will explore chamber music works written after 1970, ranging from George Crumb's "Vox Balaenae" written in 1971 to a new composition by Meera Gudipati set to be completed in 2022.

On April 1 at 7:30 p.m. and April 2 and 3 at 4 p.m., the Eastern Opera Workshop will present Hansel and Gretel. With a 75-minute run time, the family-friendly production has been adapted and directed by Eastern Music Professor Emily Riggs, with music direction by David Ballena. Tickets will become available for purchase on Feb. 1.

On April 24 at 2:30 p.m., Eastern music students will be recognized for their academic achievements in performance and musicology through an honor recital.

On April 25 at 3 p.m., student pianists will showcase their progress during the semester through a piano studio recital.

On April 25 at 7:30 p.m., Eastern's Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers will perform a variety of choral literature,

including the works of J.S. Bach.

On April 27 at 7:30 p.m., Eastern's Concert Band will perform a variety of pieces for wind band.

On May 1 at 2:30 p.m., the Percussion Ensemble will perform works for groups such as steel bands, world percussion ensembles and chamber percussion groups.

On May 2 at 7:30 p.m., Eastern music students will perform in several chamber ensembles, with music ranging from the Baroque period to present.

On May 3 at 7:30 p.m., the Jazz Combo (aka 3 O'Clock Band) and Jazz Ensemble will treat audiences to small and big-band jazz arrangements.
